Well, there weren’t exactly life forms crawling all over the course today, with just 65 players taking to the course. Apparently there was some sort of Grand Final being played somewhere… who knew? 😂

Those who did make it out were rewarded with a beautiful day, and the course is currently in absolute tip-top condition. Full credit to Brendo and the boys for having it looking so good. It really is a pleasure to see the place presented in such great shape.

🏆 Division 1 Winners

The ever-steady David Wallis (18) took out Division 1 with a very solid 40 points, continuing to show that steady golf gets the job done. David collected the $50 voucher, with Steven Warne (13) finishing runner-up on 39 points.

And then we had the dark horse!

John Maconachie (28) absolutely dominated Division 2 — and, for that matter, the entire field — with a cracking 42 points to take the win.

Twenty-five points on the back nine to come storming home with 42 points? That’s the sort of finish that gets the attention of the handicapping system! 😳

John takes home the $50 voucher and the proud owner of a new handicap losing 2 shots, with John Olsen (22) finishing runner-up on 39 points.

🔧 A Few Things Still Happening

We still have a few matters pending with the Twin Towns Board regarding some minor decisions yet to be made around the course.

As for the course setup, we’re going to let things play as they are for the next month. After that, we’ll reassess the 1st and 10th holes and make any appropriate index changes based on the scores coming back from the competitions.

For now, though, the course is in fantastic nick, the scores are rolling in and there’s plenty happening on and off the course.

What a cracking day of Stableford golf, with plenty of big scores, plenty of balls handed out and a few familiar names finding their way onto the winner’s list!

Another Wednesday done and dusted, with some very respectable scores on the board and plenty of competition across both divisions. Phil Coles led the way with an excellent 39 points, while Michael Byrne took care of business in Division 2 with 37.

Thailand Bound! 🇹🇭⛳

A few of our members are heading over to Thailand for a two-week golf trip, and we’re sure everyone back home wishes them a fantastic time.

Two weeks of golf in Thailand sounds absolutely terrible… beautiful courses, warm weather, cold beers and no responsibilities. We’re sure you’ll somehow manage to suffer through it!

Enjoy the golf, enjoy Thailand and make plenty of memories. Just remember boys — what happens in Thailand stays in Thailand… unless someone gets photos!

And perhaps the most important bit of travel advice: try not to fall in love with a ladyboy on the first night. You’ve got two weeks — there’s no need to rush into anything! 😂

Well, it certainly wasn’t the weather we ordered today!

It was wet, cold and pretty miserable out there, with tough conditions making the course a real challenge for everyone. The golf wasn’t exactly made easier by the weather either!

A massive congratulations to everyone who battled their way through and finished the full 18 holes. On a day like today, simply getting around the course deserves a little extra applause. 👏⛳

Another Wednesday Stableford is in the books at Club Banora, with some excellent scoring across both divisions. Warwick Self produced the standout score of the day with a brilliant 44 points, while Perc Dempsey also had a terrific day with 41 points to lead the ball rundown.

🏌️ September Monthly Medal — Plenty of Run, Plenty of Banter!

The September Monthly Medal has been run and won, and once again the morning players have shown the afternoon crew exactly how it is done. There is becoming a rather uncomfortable pattern here — perhaps the early starters have discovered something the rest of us haven’t, or perhaps they’re simply getting all the good weather before the sun, wind and golf course decide to have a laugh at everyone’s expense.

The course was in excellent condition for the September Monthly Medal, with plenty of run on the fairways and some nice, but fair, pin placements. It was a great day for stroke play, although judging by some of the scores, “fair” doesn’t necessarily mean “easy”!

🏆 Winners — HC by Division

Division 1

Dean Love took the Division 1 Net honours with a superb 66, playing off a handicap of 5. David Killion followed in second place with a very tidy 73 off his handicap of 7. In the Gross event, Gary Tozer took the chocolates with 81 Gross with a handicap of 3. A very respectable effort — particularly considering the rest of us were probably still trying to remember where we put our putter or finding a lost ball.

Division 2

Bryan Penny was the man to beat in Division 2 Net, finishing 68 off a handicap of 19. Graham Cron wasn’t far behind, claiming second with 69 off 14. In the Gross event, Michael Davies took the gross win with an 86, playing off 13.

Division 3

John McLoughlin picked up the Division 3 Net victory off a handicap of 26 with a score of 68, while Colin Norton finished runner-up with a very solid 70 off 23. Nick Lawler claimed the Division 3 Gross prize with a 94 off a handicap of 20.

Congratulations to all of our division winners and place-getters. Plenty of good golf on display and, importantly, plenty of opportunities for everyone else to explain why their score wasn’t quite as good as it should have been.

🌊 The Return of Kemps Creek

And speaking of questionable course management, we had Wayne Muir attempting to recreate the magic of “Kemps Creek” today.

Only this time, Wayne had clearly done some off-season training, successfully achieving both of the key objectives:

1. Getting the ball back out.
2. Not falling in.

That’s what we like to call progress.

No word yet on whether the ball actually wanted to come out, but Wayne got the job done and lived to tell the tale. Thankfully, video footage is available on request — because some moments are simply too good not to preserve for future generations of the club.
