🏆 Wednesday Stableford — Plenty of Points and Plenty of Winners!

Points Bonanza!

It was another competitive Wednesday Stableford, with some excellent scores across both divisions and a very healthy turnout in the rundown. There was plenty of movement at the top, with the winning scores separated by just a handful of points and plenty of players finishing strongly enough to pick up a ball.

Division 1: Robert Sheppard took the honours with an excellent 44 points off a handicap of 19.5 (17). Bill Mann wasn’t far behind, finishing runner-up with 40 points off 19.3 (17).

Division 2: Vince Robshaw claimed the Division 2 victory with 41 points off 29.3 (27). John Tannahill followed closely behind with 40 points off 28.0 (26) to take the runner-up position.

Sunny Skies & Solid Scores

After what feels like enough rain to qualify as a water-sports tournament, the sun finally decided to join us! It was glorious to see blue skies overhead, the fairways looking inviting and golfer’s balls actually running on the fair way rather than running for cover.

A huge thank you to the greens staff at Club Banora for presenting such a beautiful course for the 2026 Club Banora Golf Championship. The course was looking fantastic, and clearly all that hard work behind the scenes is paying off. Great job, team!

Division 1

Aaron Garland produced a terrific nett 68 off a handicap of 6, taking the Division 1 honours and the $50 voucher. David Killion followed with a solid 70 off 8, claiming the runner-up spot and a $35 voucher. 🏌️‍♂️ The Temu Putter Has Arrived!

A special mention has to go to Michael Kemp, who appears to have discovered the secret to golf: buying a putter from Temu! 😂

Armed with his new bargain-basement weapon, Michael promptly went out and made four birdies. Four! At this rate, the greens staff may need to start checking whether the putter is actually legal or whether Temu accidentally sent him a tour prototype.

Whatever the price tag, the results speak for themselves. Four birdies with the new Temu wand — that’s one way to get your money’s worth! 🐦🐦🐦🐦

To day we played our last monthly medal for the year. Sadly the continuous wet weather restricted us to 4 Medal rounds but that was enough to finalise all of our Special Events. Results will now be compiled and forwarded to Wonens Golf NSW.

Wednesday Stableford – 5 August 2026

Another Wednesday competition is in the books, with some very solid scoring across both divisions. Mark Jessop produced the standout number of the day with an excellent 41 points, while Wayne Stone wasn’t far behind on 40. Division 1 was a much tighter affair, with Cem Okan and Peter Mitchell both finishing on 38 points.

There was plenty of action further down the leaderboard too, with four players recording 38 points in the rundown and a good spread of names collecting the NTPs, Pro Pin and raffle prizes.

Cem Okan (13) claimed Division 1 with 38 points, taking home the $50 winner’s voucher. Peter Mitchell (14) also finished on 38 points to secure runner-up and the $35 voucher.

Funny how the early starters once again managed to jag the best of the conditions. By the time the later groups teed off the breeze had arrived, the greens had firmed up and excuses were being handed out free of charge. Strange how that keeps happening… 😂

Patrick Hayes (10) claimed the Division 1 Monthly Medal with a terrific 2 under nett (69), while Michael Kemp (7) finished just one shot back on 1 under nett (70). Charles Paton (2) produced the day’s best gross score in the division to take the Gross prize with 4 over (75).

Division 2 produced the standout scoring of the day with Mitch Taylor (19) firing an outstanding 7 under nett (64) to comfortably claim the Monthly Medal. Not far behind was Charlie Huff (14), who’s excellent 6 under nett (65) would have won most competitions. Both players put together superb rounds and were richly rewarded for their efforts. How lovely it was today to finally get out on the golf course. The course was in remarkable condition after all the wet weather and a huge Thankyou goes out to the grounds staff. As it was our annual Pink Lady team event the flags were pink and the sand refill bins were resplendent with a pretty flower. Again Thankyou for taking the trouble to make our day special.

We also celebrated our retired member, Betty Hall’s 100th Birthday. What a milestone and Betty joined us after our golf to enjoy catching up with everyone and of course to cut the cake.

We also held a raffle with the proceeds going to the Oncology Dept at the Tweed Hospital.Many thanks to everyone who supported this very worthy cause and we raised $325.

I would like to take space to thank my hard working committee for making this day such a wonderful success.
The event of the day was proudly sponsored in memory of Rosie Connolly – 12 months have flown by since we lost her. Liz Edwards and sister Jane donated all prizes and these were greatfully received by lots of winners.

Winners of the team event – 3 scores to count were : June McFadden, Myra Biggar, Helen Evans And Diane Hughes 122 pts from Kaye Mills, Pat Hodda, Peggy Williams and Pauline Ryan 117 pts.

🏌️ Match Play Semi-Final Report

What a spectacle! Brent McLennan has booked his place in the 2026 Club Banora Match Play Championship Final, defeating Simon Gates in the last of the semi-finals.

The golf was impressive, but the real story was Brent’s heroic commitment to fashion. In a majestic showing, Brent conquered all 18 holes wearing long pants—a gargantuan effort that will surely go down as one of the greatest endurance feats ever witnessed at Club Banora. Historians are already dusting off the record books.

Brent now marches into the final where he’ll take on Jared Brown, with the 2026 Club Banora Match Play Championship on the line. Best of luck to both players!

🔥 Shoutout of the Day

A massive congratulations to Dave Killion, who absolutely blitzed the field with a brilliant 42-point performance. Dave attacked the course from the opening hole, played with confidence, and left the rest of the field wondering what had just happened. A dominant display and a well-deserved winner! Probably not the smartest move Dave before the champs. I hope you don’t lose too many shots off your handicap.
