🏌️ September Monthly Medal — Plenty of Run, Plenty of Banter!

The September Monthly Medal has been run and won, and once again the morning players have shown the afternoon crew exactly how it is done. There is becoming a rather uncomfortable pattern here — perhaps the early starters have discovered something the rest of us haven’t, or perhaps they’re simply getting all the good weather before the sun, wind and golf course decide to have a laugh at everyone’s expense.

The course was in excellent condition for the September Monthly Medal, with plenty of run on the fairways and some nice, but fair, pin placements. It was a great day for stroke play, although judging by some of the scores, “fair” doesn’t necessarily mean “easy”!

🏆 Winners — HC by Division

Division 1

Dean Love took the Division 1 Net honours with a superb 66, playing off a handicap of 5. David Killion followed in second place with a very tidy 73 off his handicap of 7. In the Gross event, Gary Tozer took the chocolates with 81 Gross with a handicap of 3. A very respectable effort — particularly considering the rest of us were probably still trying to remember where we put our putter or finding a lost ball.

Division 2

Bryan Penny was the man to beat in Division 2 Net, finishing 68 off a handicap of 19. Graham Cron wasn’t far behind, claiming second with 69 off 14. In the Gross event, Michael Davies took the gross win with an 86, playing off 13.

Division 3

John McLoughlin picked up the Division 3 Net victory off a handicap of 26 with a score of 68, while Colin Norton finished runner-up with a very solid 70 off 23. Nick Lawler claimed the Division 3 Gross prize with a 94 off a handicap of 20.

Congratulations to all of our division winners and place-getters. Plenty of good golf on display and, importantly, plenty of opportunities for everyone else to explain why their score wasn’t quite as good as it should have been.

The ball rundown was hotly contested, with Anthony Brown and Bob Myers leading the charge at 70. After that, the field settled into a respectable collection of even-par and 71-73 scores. Not quite enough to threaten the winners, but certainly enough to keep the ball bucket busy.

That’s elite-level consistency: winning the Pro Pin and then immediately demonstrating that distance control is clearly overrated. 😂

🌊 The Return of Kemps Creek

And speaking of questionable course management, we had Wayne Muir attempting to recreate the magic of “Kemps Creek” today.

Only this time, Wayne had clearly done some off-season training, successfully achieving both of the key objectives:

1. Getting the ball back out.
2. Not falling in.

That’s what we like to call progress.

No word yet on whether the ball actually wanted to come out, but Wayne got the job done and lived to tell the tale. Thankfully, video footage is available on request — because some moments are simply too good not to preserve for future generations of the club.

A Great Weekend of Ambrose

What a way to finish off the weekend! After the championship, it was great to see everyone getting stuck into a good game of Ambrose, with plenty of laughs, some quality golf and, naturally, a few moments that were probably best not included on the scorecard.

Congratulations to all our winners and thanks to everyone who got out there and enjoyed the day. There were some very nicely placed pins and some seriously tough tee box locations, which certainly added a little extra spice to proceedings.

Kemp Creek — One Man, One Creek, One Very Nervous Pair of FootJoys

A special shoutout to Michael Kemp, who successfully navigated Kemp Creek without actually falling in. It was a close one, though.

It certainly helps when you don’t hit the side fence.

Unfortunately, the local wildlife weren’t quite as impressed with Michael’s approach as we were last week. Their home took a bit of a battering, and the FootJoys and socks apparently decided they were perfectly happy taking on the landscaping department as well.

Thankfully, Michael survived, the creek remained where it belonged, and the wildlife will hopefully have forgiven us by next weekend.

A Bit of Ricochet Trouble

In other news, a big shoutout to Bill Mann, who managed to take a knock to the eyebrow courtesy of a ricochet from a teammate’s shot.

I hope all is well, Bill, and that you didn’t require too many stitches! That’s certainly one way to make sure your teammate remembers to yell “FORE!” — although preferably a little earlier next time.

Today under blue skies and NO rain we played our Foursome Championships

. After a couple of weeks delay because of the weather it was great to get another of our Annual events ticked off the list !

24 ladies made up the field who played 27 holes followed by a lovely lunch and presentation.

Another tight Wednesday Stableford with 37 points proving to be the magic number at the top of both divisions. Aaron Garland and Jon Chugg took home the major prizes, while there was plenty of action further down the leaderboard with a logjam of players finishing on 36.

The Benny Duo Blazes to Victory in Sunday’s Canadian 2 Stroke!

It was a picture-perfect winter’s day for the Sunday Mixed Canadian 2 Stroke, proudly sponsored by Judy and Ken Mount. Players were greeted by beautiful, cool sunshine, and with the course drying out beautifully and looking in absolute top-tier condition, the stage was perfectly set for some low scoring.

In the Canadian Foursomes stroke-play format, it was the powerhouse pairing of P. Benny and S. Benny who truly made the most of the great conditions. Playing off a 15 daily handicap, the duo put on a clinic to fire a spectacular net 64 (-7), clearing the field by two clear strokes.

The Leaderboard Highlights

• The Winners: P. Benny + S. Benny took top spot with a blistering 7-under-par net 64.
• The Runners-Up: Vincent + Rasmussen mounted a serious challenge off their 22 handicap, carding a brilliant net 66 (-5) to secure second place.
• The Steady Finishers: K. Springfield + B. Springfield showed great consistency playing off an 11 handicap, grinding out an even-par net 71 to claim third.
• Rounding out the Top 5: Ryan + Jessop (+2) and the Cooper duo (+3) kept themselves firmly in the mix with solid rounds to finish fourth and fifth respectively.
